Our Pastor

Rev. Kenneth Domingue

Father Ken Domingue is a Lafayette native and son of the late Joe Domingue and Mrs. Margaret "Maggie" Thibodeaux Patin.  Joe worked at Top's Woodwork for many years before he died; and "Maggie" worked for the City of Lafayette in Codes and Permits.  His Aunt Verne Leger is the widow of his uncle, the late Ned Leger, who was a native of Cankton and owned "Leger's  Meat Market and Slaughter House" on Ninth Street in Lafayette during the 1960's to 1990.  Father Ken's step-mother is Mrs. Emma Lou Domingue, a retired teacher from Acadiana High.  Father Ken's step-father is the late Dudley J. Patin, who was a Lafayette businessman who lived to be 100 years old before his death in 2011.
As a youth, Father Ken was an Altar Server at Fatima Church on Johnston Street in Lafayette.  While serving Mass, he grew close to The Lord and desired to serve God's people as a priest.  He was a Boy Scout who earned the Eagle Scout rank in 1979.  He continues to this day to serve the Evangeline Area Council as one of its Scout Chaplains.  He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1980.  He attended St. Joseph's Seminary College, aka St. Ben's in Covington, La; and studied Theology at Notre Dame School of Theology in New Orleans, La.  Upon completion of his Seminary training, Father Ken was ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Harry Flynn at St. John's Cathedral on June 22, 1991.  During these past 27 years of ministry, he has served as a priest at Sacred  Heart Church in Ville Platte (1991-1993); St. Augustine and Assumption Churches in Basile (1993-2007).  He then served as the Pastor of St. Leo, St. Catherine, and St. Jules Churches in Leonville (2007-2018).
Recently, as of this last July, Father Ken has been appointed by Bishop Deshotel to be the Pastor of St. John Berchmans Church here in Cankton.  As well as his work in the church parish, he continues working with the Boy Scouts as one of their Chaplains, and he teaches the Engaged Couples preparing for Marriage in the Catholic Engaged Encounter Weekends.  He is in the Legion of Mary, and participates in the "Come Lord Jesus Bible Study and Prayer Groups."
He is very happy to have been assigned to St. John Berchmans with it's beautiful antique pictures, historical church, and Faith-filled people.  He is also very surprised and elated to see several of his cousins and childhood friends who attend Mass here!!!!  He looks forward to meeting everyone and being of service as your parish priest here in Cankton. Please welcome with open arms your new shepherd, Fr. Ken Domingue.  He is very pleased to be here and become part of your family.
